hey i have a question i made my high schools team :D but ive always played 3rd or 2nd. but i guess i had a hidden talent for pitching. my coach wants me to practice but do you have any advice to give me to improve? i dont want to mess up and let my team down ):

first of all, congrats! The coach on my travel team told me to pitch everyday. If its still cold where you live, form a sock into a ball, and pitch into the wall. Work on your accuracy before speed and make sure you have proper form. When I’m inside, i do a lot of wrist snaps into the wall. I also watch a lot of videos. There’s a lot of pressure for when it comes to being a pitcher but don’t let that get to you. Don’t let bad pitches get you down. If you hit a player, don’t get upset, it’s their fault they didn’t move. Have fun and I hope I helped!

hey its the anon from the ? about tryouts. I made the team! They told me I have a ridicousily strong arm that's perfect for the outfield but i personally enjoy second more what should i do? next practice we get to choose our positions idk which one. help?!? haha

That’s great you made it!! Its important for outfield to have a strong arm. Ask you coach if you can practice with both positions and ask if you need to improve anything with 2nd.

Hello!(: I have a ? about my upcoming softball school team tryouts. Last year there were the teams , the good and beginner one. Last year it was my first year ever playing softball , I fell in love with the sport! Although i wasn't the best , and I was the underdog. Next week at tryouts I want to prove them all wrong. I want to make them say wow what happened? But how do i do so? How do I leave a good impression at tryouts?

well I’m glad to hear you enjoy playing the sport! what are your weaknesses?if its batting, go to the batting cages as much as possible! do things that are somewhat out of your comfort zone! if you’re used to 50 mph at the cages, warm up with that but don’t be afraid to try 60! before we had tryouts, I would have a couple of friends over and we would just throw grounders and pop flys to each other! if you don’t have the ability to go outside, roll a sock into a ball, and throw it into the walls around the house! this is what helped me most! if your school has open gyms, GO TO THEM. good luck at tryouts! p.s. don’t let your nerves get to you! you’ve got this! I've played in Maryland, did you play in the Pennsylvania Recreational Allstar Tournament over the summer of 2012? It's on the border of Maryland and Pennsylvania. I played there, my team won the Division 2 bracket!

Also, it doesn't matter if you're 14, 18, or 23 like me. I've been playing softball since I was little, went all the way up to college until I blew my knee out and started coaching. A 14 year old is plenty capable of giving advice, because by 14U the basics should be known and are constantly worked on. I have yet to see her give any wrong advice, I LOVE this blog and would hate to see it be handed over because the admin is wonderful at running this.

To awestcoastheart, I tore my ACL and PCL in one season, and later my MCL. I was back within a season and I've seen players come back after surgery the following season. They had to take it super easy at first, and I mean really easy, light running a lot of conditioning with Physical Therapy to gain strength again. Keep your hopes up, if you don't come back in the spring, aim for the summer and fall, but don't ever give up.
